Patient perspective on new trends in clinical trials: Think about patient value, not provider value!

Decentralized trials, decision support systems, mobile apps, remote monitoring and home nursing provide great opportunities. But same disease, same stage, same age = same patient preferences? No, patients are not the same. This is why when thinking about new technologies and health services, it is important to create a positive risk-benefit balance for all patients while not a creating new educational and financial divide. The new digital world of clinical trials and health services requires new approaches in (co-)creation of services, patient information and shared decision support systems. To do so, don’t make assumptions what patients want: listen, collaborate and co-create with the patient community in the design and implementation of research and services!
