Engagement of the patient community in publications: The WECAN publications training course for patient advocates

12:30 PM - 1:15 PM

Patient organisations are engaging as partners in research projects and are also increasingly generating their own data.  To make sure meaningful patient evidence is known by and has impact on researchers and policy makers, they increasingly engage in authoring or co-authoring articles in scientific journals and other publications. To empower the patient community in planning, authoring and disseminating publications on patient-led or patient-partnered research, the Workgroup of European Cancer Patient Advocacy Networks (WECAN) and Envision the Patient have created the world-first, open-access publications training course for patient advocates which is launching in Q2/2021. This may provide opportunities for new collaborations between patient advocates and publication professionals. This presentation of Jan Geissler of WECAN will provide an insight into patient engagement in publications as well as the WECAN training project.
