Robert is a licensed physician and a scientist trained at Harvard Med (clinical research fellowship), Northwestern Med (MD), UC Davis/SMC (Pathology), UCSD/Salk Institute (Molecular biology, immunology, virology). He has spent much of the last three decades immersed in development of medical countermeasures for biodefense and public health emergencies. His research contributions include being the original inventor of mRNA and DNA vaccination technologies, use of pulsed electrical fields for delivering polynucleotides in vivo, enabling development of the PHAC rVSV ZEBOV (Merck Ebola) vaccine, and most recently repurposing drugs for Zika and SARS-CoV-2/COVID-19. He has worked in small, mid and large pharma environments and has also started multiple companies. He has played key clinical development roles in many Phase 1, 2, and 3 clinical trials, and supports medical writing, regulatory affairs, project management and proposal development tasks for many clients.
